Street construction and parking restrictions in the Arts District — and the vendors shaping its future.
By James King · October 23, 2026
News 3 Las Vegas (KSNV) profiled the moment BARTER's Arts District neighborhood is navigating: city construction extending the closure at Commerce Street and Charleston Boulevard through late November, and the parking restrictions pressing in around the shops that make the district tick.
The piece centers on the vendors investing in their own spaces right now. Tova Gold started with an 8-foot section of wall at BARTER and just weeks ago moved into her first full space, installing a floor and preparing to open the Tova Gold Gallery. “It's a community as much as it is an opportunity,” she told the outlet, even as she voiced her worry about the barriers customers now face getting there.
Nick Sanchez, who sells books and oddities from his Sad Omen shop within BARTER, echoed the sentiment — describing the in-person browse-and-discover experience as what makes his booth special, and hoping the neighborhood keeps its charm as small businesses contend with construction.
BARTER head bartender Jenifer Falls told News 3 that cones blocked parking spaces outside the mall with little advance notice, affecting roughly 40 vendors and their customers, and that the difficulty has already meant fewer people coming through the doors. Her call to city planners: communicate better so businesses aren't the last to know.
Commerce and Charleston is part of the city's larger Charleston Boulevard Storm Drain Project, scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. For the vendors building toward that future — including those at BARTER Beer + Mall — every visit matters. As Tova Gold put it, “everyone less that gets stopped by the construction or doesn't make it down here in the first place, we feel it. We absolutely feel it.”
