Dr. Suzanne Roozendaal on the appeal of giving old things another life.
By Gabriela Rodriguez · October 1, 2026

In a feature interview published by Las Vegas Weekly on October 1, 2026, writer Gabriela Rodriguez sits down with BARTER co-owner Dr. Suzanne Roozendaal — an emergency medicine physician by day and a lifelong curator, collector, and Arts District advocate at heart.
The article traces Roozendaal's path from scouting Huntridge-area shops as a medical student, to opening a booth at Main Street Peddlers, to launching Mintless and Reclaim, and finally co-founding BARTER Beer + Mall in April 2025 with Rebar owner Derek Stonebarger. Today the 6,000-square-foot space on the western edge of the Arts District is home to 40+ vendors of vintage clothing, home goods, art, and antiques — with a bar pouring beer, wine, and seltzers, and a calendar of karaoke, artist workshops, meetups, and punk rock bingo.
At the heart of the conversation is a simple philosophy: keep the Arts District affordable for the people who built it. “How do we create a space where people can afford to sell, but they don't have to be here all the time?” Roozendaal says. Vendors pay low rent with a small commission, pitch in a few hours a week, and put on free events — keeping BARTER a true community space that is constantly changing and never quite looks the same twice.
